# Research

> Run ad-hoc competitive intelligence research with AI-powered answers and source citations

Ad-hoc research lets you ask any competitive intelligence question and get an AI-powered answer backed by web sources.

## Creating a research query

1. Navigate to your workspace and click **Research** in the sidebar.
2. Type your question in the input field.
3. Optionally configure the settings.
4. Click **Send** to start the research.

## Research settings

### Brand context

Toggle the **Brand context** switch to include your workspace's brand context in the research. This tailors the AI's answer to your business perspective.

### Research depth

Choose how deep the AI should research:

| Level      | Description                          |
| ---------- | ------------------------------------ |
| Auto       | Automatically selects the best depth |
| Minimal    | Fastest, lightweight scan            |
| Low        | Quick scan with some depth           |
| Medium     | Balanced depth and speed             |
| High       | Thorough research                    |
| Extra High | Most comprehensive, slowest          |

<Tip>
  Higher depths take longer to run but produce more thorough answers.

## Viewing results

The interface splits into two panels:

* **Left panel** - Chat conversation with your question and the AI's answer.
* **Right panel** - Source citations showing the web sources used.

## Past research

All past research is listed in the sidebar. Click any item to revisit it. Delete by hovering and clicking the trash icon.
